Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) – The Art of Smart Self-Defence
What is Jiu Jitsu?
Jiu Jitsu (often called BJJ) is a ground-based martial art focused on leverage, timing, and technique rather than brute strength. Instead of using punches or kicks, students learn how to safely control an opponent using holds, joint locks, and escapes. It is often described as a game of "physical chess" because every move has a counter-move.
How It Works
* No Striking: There is absolutely no punching or kicking in this discipline.
* Leverage Over Strength: Students learn to use an opponent's weight against them, making it highly effective for self-defence.
* Controlled Partner Work: Techniques are practiced with partners at a controlled pace to ensure total safety.
* The "Tap Out": Safety is our priority. If a student is caught in a hold, they simply "tap" their partner, and the action stops instantly.
Understanding the Belts (The Journey)
Progress is measured by belt colours, representing dedication and skill. It takes time, patience, and practice to move through them:
* ⚪ White Belt: The beginner stage. Focuses on basic movements, survival, and learning how to fall safely.
* 🔵 Blue Belt: The foundation stage. Students understand the core positions and can perform basic defenses smoothly.
* 🟣 Purple Belt: The technician stage. Students start combining moves and finding their personal style.
* 🟤 Brown Belt: The advanced stage. Focuses on refining techniques and teaching others.
* ⚫ Black Belt: Mastery of the basics. The beginning of a lifelong deeper understanding of the art.
