Nogi Jiu Jitsu is the culmination of BJJ, Wrestling, and Judo. The objective is to control your opponent and force them to ‘submit’ to you through control and pressure. Striking, i.e. punching or kicking, is strictly not allowed.
Gear: In nogi the typical clothing is a rash vest and shorts, but people can wear appropriate workout clothes until they have the proper gear.
Any tops or shorts worn must not have zips or any hard plastics or surfaces as they may harm you and your training partners.Advanced
3 classes per week
These classes are not for beginners
Typically we will work in 4-8 week ‘cycles’. A cycle is training in a specific area, e.g. ‘takedowns’ and ‘pin escapes’
Foundations

Gi Jiu Jitsu is similar to Nogi; it combines Judo, wrestling and BJJ to form a complete grappling art. The key difference is that we wear traditional kimono, or ‘Gi’, similar to judo.
The objective is to control your opponent and force them to ‘submit’ to you through control and pressure. Striking, i.e. punching or kicking, is strictly not allowed.Gear: In Gi, we wear a ‘Gi’ which you can purchase yourself or through the club.
Typically you wear a rashguard underneath the jacket but a plain tee will do until you have the proper gear. Any tops worn must not have zips, hard plastics or surfaces as they may harm you and your training partners.Advanced

At Na Fianna, we combine all striking arts to make a complete striker.
Striking can be daunting for a beginner so we break up the classes into Foundations and Advanced to ensure everyone is safe, happy, and training effectively.
Gear: Typically people wear shorts and a plain tee but the best is to wear a rashguard and appropriate shorts (same as in Nogi).
It’s vital that any class which contains grappling you wear no zips or hard plastics to avoid hurting yourself or your training partners.Advanced

An Open Mat is a time dedicated to practice.
Most people use this time for sparring but it’s also an opportunity to work on specific problems or drills you want to do with a partner. We typically put on a timer for the duration of the open mat so people can spar for set ‘rounds’ but feel free to drop in for a chat, ask some questions, look (or give) feedback, or find a partner to drill with.
We have ample space for everyone so we split our mats in two and allow one mat to focus on striking while the other focuses on Grappling.
Bring all your gear and swap between disciplines too!
This time is for you; use however you want
